Officer Josiah Overton with the Springfield Police Department in Missouri was the first to respond to an active shooter scene at a local gas station. There had been multiple calls reporting a vehicle crashing at the scene. The suspect entered the store, shooting customers and employees. Upon arrival, Officer Overton was immediately shot, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and was hospitalized. He has since made a full recovery. Overton had been with the Springfield Police Department for two years at the time of the shooting. Police Chief Paul Williams stated, "Both of these officers showed significant bravery and were heroic in their actions."
