H2K nominee Taylor Reed

On August 20, 2014, Corporal Taylor Reed was shot in the chest while responding to a shooting incident at a residence on S. Whitehouse Road.

According to deputies, upon arrival at the scene, they were met with gunfire from the suspect’s mother, Roberta Hill. Hill opened fire on the responding officers, striking Corporal Reed in the arm. The bullet passed through his arm and entered his chest, leaving him seriously wounded.  Authorities reported that Hill had mistaken the deputies for her son when she began shooting at them.

Corporal Reed was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, where emergency crews described his condition as critical but stable. Fortunately, the Sheriff’s Office confirmed that his wounds were non-life-threatening.

Corporal Reed’s bravery and dedication to protecting his community were undeniable. His colleagues and community members rallied behind him as he recovered from his injuries. His unwavering commitment to duty serves as an inspiration to all. The community deeply appreciates his sacrifice, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude for his service and courage in the face of danger.
